Natural Slate - imported from:

Brazil - Our source of Brazilian slate is offered in two colours, both oe quality. Either grey/green or graphite colours are available in a variety of sizes to meet everyones needs. The consistency of its smooth appearance in either colours blends beautifully with the environment of the local area. The sizes that are available are as follows: Grey/Green - 600x300mm, 500x250mm, 400x200mm & 300x200mm. Graphite - 600x300mm, 500x250mm & 400x200mm. All slates come pre-holed for quick and easy nail fixing and has been tested to BS EN 12326/1/2004. Natural Brazilian slate vents are also available for both 20x10 and 16x8 slates for both ventilation and extractions needs

Spain - Bretona - There is two grades of the Spanish Bretona natural roofing slate, Prime and Standard. With its distinct light grey colour, smooth surface and close grain texture, this slate gives a roof the neat crisp appearance. This slate is obtainable in 4 sizes. 600x300mm, 500x250mm, 400x200mm and 300x200mm. The nominal thickness is 4-6mm and the slate has been tested to all parts of BS680.

Argentina – The Riverstone natural roofing slate is of the highest quality, exclusively quarried in Argentina. This slate is available in a wide range of sizes, with a choice of deep green or grey green shades. This slate has been specified in the UK for many years, on new build and refurbishment works. The sizes that are available are as follows: 600x300mm, 500x250mm, 450x250mm, 400x200mm, 350x200mm and 300x200mm. All slates are approximately 5-7mm thick and have been tested to BS680 Part2, 1971.

China - The Fesco Trebarwith slate is a grey natural slate with hints of green. It is similar in colour to a Delabole slate and so has been often used as an economical alternative. It has passed all parts of BS680 and has a 75 year guarantee. Ex stock are both 500x250mm and 400x200mm which are all pre-holed. Other sizes are available on request.

Canada - Superior capabilities, depth of color and rich textures distinguish the Vermont slate from other stones. The Delabole Slate Company - The Delabole Slate Company was first formed in 1842 and still produces traditional roofing slates using skills handed down through the generations. The Delabole quarry remains the oldest and largest slate quarry in England. Delabole has a range of 12nr different sized slates from 24x12 down to 12x6 as well as their popular random width and peggies (scantle) range. They also hand produce various other items which include flooring, window cills, fireplace slabs, work and table tops, etc. As proud account holders with Delabole, we would be pleased to offer our services should you require further details on their products whether general enquiry, technical guidance or costings.

Mill Hill Quarries (Trevillett) - For over 400 years, Mill Hill Quarry have specialised in producing high quality stone for specialist building purposes. As well as the Trevillett quarry, stone is also imported from two other quarries in the same ownership for dressing and resale. As with the Delabole quarry, Mill Hill's roofing slate range from 24x12 down to 12x6 with random width and peggies also available.

SVK Cromleigh Montana Fibre Cement Slates - For those who like the genuine natural slate look, SVK have created an elegant slate with natural dressed edges and a textured surface. They combine the natural look of genuine natural slates with all the benefits of fibre cement slates. We are currently using this slate on a housing development by Wainhomes (SW) Holdings Ltd, here in St Austell.

Red Bank Manufacturing Co Ltd - Red Bank has been producing ridge tiles and fittings since shortly after the First World War. With a wealth of experience and expertise, Red Bank has achieved technical excellence in an unrivalled product range that adds distinction and character to any type of architecture. Roofing Underlays:

DuPont Tyvek - Tyvek membranes offer worldwide a leading solution for the protection of buildings from external climatic conditions and the effects of condensation. They consist of extremely durable lightweight flexible sheet materials manufactured from spun bonded polyolefin. The water resistance, strength and vapour-permeable characteristics of the membranes make them suitable for use as breather membranes in pitched roof construction and in most forms of timber and metal frame wall construction. Available from J W Lewis & Sons ex stock is Tyvek Supro at a very competitive price. Supro can be used for all cold or warm roof types and are stocked in 1.5m x 50m sized rolls. Also available to order is Tyvek Supro Plus (like Supro but with integral adhesive lap tape to seal all laps) & Tyvek Tape (a single sided tape for sealing laps and making good around penetrations). As well as these roof associated products, all other Tyvek products are available to order. Protect A1 - Both these underlays are a non-breathable roofing underlay which has been developed specifically to overcome the disadvantages of the old style 1F felts and plastic sheet underlays. Both can be used for all pitched roof construction whether the insulation is at ceiling joist level or at rafter level (roof space should be provided as with all underlays of this type).

Klober Permo Forte - Klober has established vapour-permeable membrane technology as accepted practice in roof and wall construction. Permo Forte negates the need for under membrane ventilation in both warm and cold roofs and allows water vapour to exit freely from the interior of the building.

Powerlon Ultraperm - Powerlon is a range of underlays for pitched roofs. Powerlon are tough, tear resistant and durable underlays with superior performance characteristics compared to traditional felts. Ultraperm is an ultra-permeable, hydrophobic, UV stablised non-woven composite breather membrane (wow, what a mouth full!!) for roofing and timber frame constructions. Ultraperm has a triple layer construction which protects the special breathable film layer.

Eaves Protection System - The Klober EPS has been designed to provide a durable, maintenance free detail to the roof perimeter. This support tray ensures that the underlay is not carried into the gutter, and prevents water ponding behind the fascia. Thereby reducing long term maintenance to the eaves of a building. Available in 1.5m lengths ex stock

Fascia Vents - Easily installed units providing eaves ventilation over the fascia. Available in 10mm and 25mm ventilation capacities.

Roll Out Rafter Trays - A combined insulation interrupter and roof space ventilator in a single roll. Each 6m roll is suitable for 450mm or 600mm rafter centres and for both 10mm and 25mm roof void ventilation. We have 300mm wide trays available ex stock. Both 400mm & 600mm wide trays can be ordered, although subject to minimum quantities.

Eaves Filler Comb - A versatile eaves filler comb to protect against the entry of birds, vermin and debris, through gaps left by deep tile profiles (Grovebury, Regent, etc.) at the eaves.

Klober Small Slate Vent - This is a ventilating slate to suit 600x300mm (24x12) and 500x250mm (20x10) double lap slates, man-made or natural, for roofs with a minimum pitch of 20 degrees. The Small Slate Vent complete with integral down pipe can also be used for soil ventilation or mechanical extraction when used with a 75/100mm flexi pipe in addition to roof space ventilation at high or low level. Klober Uni-Line Slate Vent - This is a in-line (flush fitting) ventilating slate to suit 600x300mm (24x12) and 500x250mm (20x10) double lap slates, man-made or natural, for roofs with a minimum pitch of 22.5. The Uni-Line Slate Vent complete with an integral down pipe can also be used for soil ventilation or mechanical extraction when used with a 75/100mm flexi pipe in addition to roof space ventilation at high or low level. Flexible Pipes - Easy this one! Available ex stock are 3" to 4" and 4" to 4" flexi pipes suitable for connections to all our stocked slate vents, tile vents/thruvents and ridge vents.

European Plastics Ltd

Dry verge systems in black, white & brown uPVC. Ex stock is "R Type" for tiles (93mm depth) and "S Type" for slate in black or white. Available to order is "D Type" (105mm depth) and "M Type" (100mm depth without bottom edge flange) and all verge types in brown. Included in ex stock items are connectors and ridge caps.

Reclaimed Products

J W Lewis are fortunate to have a vast area of yard space which has been set aside for reclaimed roofing products. These products include Delabole and Welsh slates, concrete interlocking tiles (some no-longer made), clay tiles and both concrete and clay ridge tiles in all sorts of profiles. Due to the fast turnover of these products, we recommend contacting us to check out our stocks which alters daily. Why buy new when reclaimed maybe available, possibly more suitable for your job and definitely more cost-effective?
